The One Time Blues Band is about the interaction between male and female, conveniently represented by a female and a male singer and driven by a wide range of blues oriented styles. Some Chicago , some soul, some jazzy, some funk, all very danceable and funny.
So, serious business with a smile.
Trixie Trainwreck
Voodoo Rhythm Records recording artists Trixie and The Trainwrecks play blues and folk the new way with the battle scars of the old themes. From San Francisco and London via Berlin here comes some loud, over-driven, bittersweet, rip your heart out and wear it on your sleeve blues. Working class folk blues from the church of Bluestrash. Trixie Trainwreck shreds her guitar and kicks out the jams on her drums while Charlie Hangdog blows his brains out on harmonica. They take it as it comes and play it like it is. Because they have to. And lifetime of doing things their own way has brought their paths to cross and to create one hell of a sound. The sound of the road less taken.
Abe Partridge
Abe Partridge komt uit het Zuiden van de Verenigde Staten, was predikant en militair in oorlogstijd. Maar hij is, zoals zijn tweede album Cotton Fields And Blood For Days (2018) bewijst, vooral een volstrekt unieke singer/songwriter, wiens liedjes zonder uitzondering de impact van korte verhalen hebben. De instrumentatie is sober, de stem van Partridge heeft dezelfde schuurpapier-kwaliteit als Tom Waits en zijn held is Son House. Negen verpletterend goede nummers. Eén daarvan heeft de fraaie titel: Ride Willie Ride (Or Thoughts I Had While Contemplating Both The Metaphysical Nature Of Willie Nelson And His Harassment By The Internal Revenu Service). Partridge is een genie en Cotton Fields And Blood For Days is ongelooflijk goed.
